About Sanjeevani

Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation, News 18 Network, and Tata Trusts are renowned for their commitment to impactful initiatives, exemplified by their collaboration in creating Sanjeevani – United Against Cancer. This initiative is dedicated to raising awareness, fostering discussions about the silent cancer epidemic, and alleviating the fears associated with the disease. Sanjeevani aims to promote early and consistent health tests, effective tumor management, and symptom recognition, all critical in the battle against cancer.

Cancer is a formidable health challenge, ranking among the top causes of mortality. In India, a laid-back attitude towards health and fear often hinder early cancer detection, the most common types being breast, oral, cervical, lung, and colorectal cancer. Sanjeevani comes in here, with a focus on empowering individuals to confront their fears and actively combat cancer in time.

Shocking statistics reveal that cancer cases are projected to increase from 14.6 lakh in 2022 to 15.7 lakh in 2025, with close to 50% of patients succumbing due to late-stage detection. Conversely, early detection can help in reducing this burden and saving lives. Sanjeevani`s mission is to combat the social stigma surrounding cancer through awareness and mitigate hesitancy around screening and early detection tests in India.

Understanding Cancer

Cancer is a broad term for a group of diseases characterized by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells within the body. These cells can form tumors, invade nearby tissues, and potentially spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can arise in various organs and tissues, and its development is typically influenced by genetic mutations, environmental factors, lifestyle choices, and a combination of these.

Cancer remains a significant global health challenge, impacting individuals and families profoundly. Early detection, effective treatments, and ongoing research are essential components of the ongoing battle against cancer, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes and expanding our knowledge of these complex diseases.

Early Detection

THE FIRST STEP TO INCREASE SURVIVAL

Late-stage cancer detection is a worldwide issue, particularly pronounced in resource-poor regions where inefficient or nonexistent healthcare systems and low awareness contribute to an escalating disease burden. Diagnosis at an advanced stage often necessitates expensive treatments that have severe side effects, often compromising therapy outcomes and leaving patients uncertain about their future.

The key to alleviating the growing cancer burden lies in early detection. Timely identification of cancer enables more effective treatment, enhancing survival rates and sparing patients from the expense and complications associated with late-stage interventions.
